Waiting patiently (not!)

I currently don’t have my own computer. A person may not be aware of how dependent he or she has become on certain contraptions until they are no longer available. For me, the computer is more than just a something I sit down and plunk away at now and then. It is very tied in with my creative thought and expression, both in what I can do with it as well as how I build it, how I maintain it, which applications are installed, etc. I’m very fortunate because right now my main hard drive, with my entire life on it, as it were, is plugged into my husbands computer; which means I have access to all my data. But it’s just not the same.

I’m waiting on a new case and powersupply for the rebuild. This was my first homebuilt-by-me computer and I had obtained a very cute looking generic case about two years ago. It had two pretty blue lights on the front and a “see-through” window and I thought I had gotten a pretty good deal. Last year, my mobo (1 year old) started acting wonky and thinking it was the “bargain basement” nature of the thing I got myself a new Abit mobo and processor. Whew did it fly then! It was soooo sweet! At least that is until it started spontaneously restarting and acting funky. Being that it was a Windows machine I figured it needed a reinstall, and that would have to wait until the end of the semester for me to deal with. But no, alas one day in early December my computer took a tail spin and my mobo went from working fine to no POST. DOA. (sob!)

Luckily, Abit has a great RMA program, which was awesome because I loved that mobo and less than a week later a look-alike cousin board arrived via UPS. Also, it finally dawned on me that all along the nasty culprit was probably a faulty, wonky generic power supply that did in both my boards. As the wiring in my pretty case was also funked up, it was decided that a new case and PS was the only solution. So I have ordered a Cooler Master Cavalier 1, a name brand case with lots of positive reviews (at a very good price, I might add. In fact I think there was only one out there at that price-and I got it!). I believe from everything I could find out on it that the powersupply that comes with it will be sufficient, but we shall see…

In the meantime I’m in limbo. I just checked with UPS; my case is on a truck somewhere between here and Indiana. Oh please be gentle with her, I canna take much moor!
