Still here

My case arrived on schedule, Monday sometime, and I’ve been building and loading my computer ever since. The thing is that XP has been so stable for me that it has been a while since I’ve loaded my programs from scratch. I’ve made a few mistakes and managed to contract a virus (rundll32.exe sound familiar?) so I’m going to start over again today. Hopefully we will be up and running with the new system later on today.

I was thinking about the fact that I’ve never owned a Mac, but I’ve always wanted one. As I had just read the book, I loved Apples’s 1984 commercial, which I just happened to see during the Superbowl. Later, my first room mate in college got an Apple Mac. I was so jealous! But I at least got to use it. Drawing with a mouse in Hypercard was my first experience of drawing on a computer. Ever since then they have been out of my price range, not only for the unit but also to replace all of my software. A Macintosh may be computer nirvana, but I’m stuck right here on ho-hum PC earth. As anyone who runs PCs knows, unless you want to shell out some big bucks or deal with major frustrations, you are required to be able to do your own hardware/software/administration work to keep things going smoothly. That’s OK. Do it yourself suits me.
